Noel Dumbrell was born in the sleepy Sussex village
of Ashurst in 1930. His Grandfather owned the local
pub, The Fountain Inn, way back in 1902. Many old
characters lived in this village and much unaccompanied
folk singing was their way of life. These old songs are
kept alive today by many traditional singers like The
Copper Family of Rottingdean and Noel, in this wonderful
and historic debut CD, brings us some more of these gems
as sung by an old 1900s Ashurst character Len Pelling.
Noel talks us through life as it was in those lazy
days in Ashurst when he was a child and accompanies himself
with great flair on the harmonica! All the words
to these song are included in a separate booklet accompanying
this CD and it has a forward by
John Copper. For the collector of traditional Sussex
folk songs this is a 'must' and a real 'gem'.
