his
is an amazing story of man's courage and
bravery in the face of overwhelming odds. It tells the tale of Sir
Ernest Shackleton's doomed 1914 Trans-Antarctic Expedition and how
after their boat The Endurance got crushed in the polar ice they
managed to stay alive living on the icefloes for over a year in
conditions so harsh and cruel most men would have perished. How
they had to use their 3 lifeboats to row to safety to a rocky island
on the tip of Antarctica and how they crew of 22 existed there for
months while Shackleton and 5 men rowed through the treacherous
seas 650 miles to South Georgia Island for help. This rescue will
be in many people's minds the greatest example of man's bravery,
courage and fortitude ever told.
I found this book fascinating and absorbing with so many of the
expedition's original photographs to illustrate and expand the events
of this unique tale.
Thank you to Peter, Sue, Poppy, Ellie and Jack who gave me this
book as a Christmas present...I really enjoyed it!
