PERFUME by PATRICK SUSKIND
and
THE WOMAN WHO WALKED INTO DOORS by RODDY DOYLE

I was recommended to read this book by a teacher friend and was not disappointed!
It is a fascinating story ,well written, of a man in 18th century France, who posesses a remarkable nose which can detect smell, and odour to his own evil advantage. It is a tale of murder and intrigue and it's graphic descriptions of reeking stench and odour combined with perfume and prestige make compulsive reading to the very last page!

A most remarkable book which I read in a day! A graphic and heart-rending story of a woman struggling to reclaim her dignity after a violent, abusive 18 year marriage and a worsening drink problem. Her husband's physical abuse of her during the years of bringing up a family of 4 children and his constant threat to kill her and the kids if she told on him made her so vulnerable in a society which today still refuses to recognise abuse even when it's all around us. This story means a lot to me for personal reasons.
